Fibredontics - the future of dentistry

Tooth replacement in one hour.

The carbon fibre reinforced bridge is a minimally invasive and cost-effective way to replace a missing tooth. Fibre-glass strands are used to create a carbon fibre frame. The missing tooth is made from tooth coloured composite filling material. The glass fibre bundles are embedded in the filling material. The fibre frame is attached to the natural teeth with an adhesive. The bond between composite resin and tooth enamel is the strongest bond possible in the mouth. The strength of the fibres is as high as that of metal and has the advantage of having similar elasticity to that of dentine. The anchor teeth are only minimally prepared, unlike normal bridgework where almost all the enamel of the anchor teeth is removed during the bridge preparation. The procedure normally takes less than two hours and no temporization or repeat visit is required.

Stabilizing mobile teeth

This is achieved by the joining of loose teeth which have been affected by gum disease. The teeth are attached to one another in order to stabilize and immobilize them.

Mobile lower front teeth is a common complaint of people with advanced periodontal disease. The teeth become loose because periodontal disease causes the bone around the teeth to be lost. Periodontal treatment can not replace this missing bone so the prognosis for such teeth if left unstable can be poor. Often the lower incisors are the first teeth to show signs of mobility.

Almost all cases of fibrebond splinting do not require local anaesthesia. A very shallow groove is prepared on the tongue side of the loose teeth. The groove does not normally extend into the dentine of the teeth, but stays within the enamel where the best bonding will be obtained.
