It’s a well-known fact that giving your mouth the care and attention it deserves can really pay off. Whilst it doesn’t mean you should stop seeing us for regular oral health reviews, using an electric toothbrush can help remove more plaque and prevent the development of gum disease.
Electric toothbrushes have high-powered bristles which dislodge and remove plaque faster and more effectively than a manual toothbrush and over recent years electric toothbrushes have become much more advanced.
Both the British Dental Journal and the British Dental Health Foundation strongly advise the use of an electric toothbrush for a much improved oral health/hygiene.
Most people do not brush for the recommended 2-minutes twice a day but with an electric toothbrush with built-in timer and sometimes even a quadpacer (to make sure each area of the mouth is getting the same amount of attention) this becomes easier and more likely.
There’s also so much evidence now that supports the healthy mouth-healthy body thinking that this is now even more important than ever.
Issues with your oral health can often be an indicator or even directly affect your general health. For example, some conditions, such as diabetes, require you to take special care of your teeth and gums in order to maintain your health. Brushing twice a day with an electric toothbrush and flossing once a day helps to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Whichever toothbrush you decide to use, its important to use it correctly. Place the head of the brush at a 45 degree angle to the tooth so it is also against the gumline and make sure you pay special attention to the hard to reach areas in your mouth.
