We have been talking about the links between oral health and your general health for some time now. An integral part of your oral care is seeing a hygienist on a regular basis.
We are so lucky here at DD to have 3 fantastic hygienists-Heather, Elaine and Kay who go above and beyond for our patients and treat them with the upmost professionalism and care. Even nervous patients are big hygiene advocates after receiving their treatment!
90% of the population will suffer from gum disease at some time, this is not the end of the world IF you are proactive and follow advice given by your hygienist. This cannot be reversed but it can be stopped in its tracks and maintained. If gum disease is left untreated it can lead to tooth loss-the hygienist could also identify tooth issues too and refer you back to the dentist.
If you suffer from sensitivity this can be helped by the hygienist- please do not be tempted to cancel an appointment due to it, they are extremely proficient in treating patients with sensitivity in a comfortable manner.
Our hygienists work with us 5 days a week and a late evening on a Monday. They might need to see you every 3, 6 or 9 months depending on how you look after your teeth at home and your risk of gum disease too. Sometimes we might need to stabilise your gum health before we can offer you certain types of dental treatment such as implants. Good oral hygiene and gum health really are the foundations of a healthy mouth and will help make sure that any dental work you receive will last as long as possible.
Please speak to a member of the team if you have any questions about our hygiene appointments-they will be happy to help. Don’t forget our membership plans can help you to spread the cost of your dental care in monthly installments too!
