Its National Smile Month!
Here are the Oral Health Foundations Top Tips for Teeth!
Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
Spit out after brushing and do not rinse-so that the fluoride stays on your teeth longer.
After eating, wait one hour before brushing your teeth. Some foods and drinks can make tooth enamel soft, so try not to brush straight after eating or you could damage this protective coating.
Use dental floss or interdental brushes to clean in between your teeth at least once a day-only 21% of people clean in between their teeth regularly.
Change your toothbrush every 3 months-only 22% of people do this
Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks in between meals. Its not how much you have but how often! To help your teeth to fight against decay, try to keep sugary foods and drinks to mealtimes and only have one snack a day.
Drink water, eat cheese or chew sugar free gum after meals. Water rinses sugar and acid away. Cheese helps to neutralise acid and chewing sugar free gum helps to clean the mouth.
Visit us regularly, as often as we recommend. It is so important that you have regular reviews to keep your mouths healthy-whatever you age (and whether you have teeth or not!)
Be mouth aware. Check your own mouth regularly and visit your dentist if you notice any changes, such as lumps, red and white patches or mouth ulcers which do not heal in 3 weeks.
And of course if you have any concerns please contact the team!
