Many people have sensitive teeth from time to time, so we’ve come up with some tips to help if your teeth are feeling a little “edgy.”
1. Make sure your cleaning regime is spot on (our fantastic hygiene team can help you with this!) Decay can cause the teeth to become uncomfortable so if you make sure you clean away the plaque off your teeth the risk of this happening decreases. It’s also very important to see your dentist regularly so that they can spot decay early when it’s more easily-treated.
2. Avoid food and drinks which contain a high amount of acid – this also includes some fruits! Use a straw to drink these drinks and you’ll reduce the amount of acid contacting the teeth.
3. Avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures: lukewarm drinks can usually be tolerated.
4. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and brush gently with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. You can also apply the toothpaste topically to the areas which are the most sensitive and leave it there like a cream. Be careful when you brush, too. If you scrub too hard you can cause your gums to recede which will expose more of the sensitive part of your tooth and cause greater sensitivity.
