You can look great, feel great, and exercise regularly. That doesn’t always tell the whole story. When it comes to your health, there are five numbers you need to know: Blood Pressure, Glucose, Cholesterol, Waist to Height ratio and BMI. Any one of these numbers can indicate an increased risk for conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

We know that dental health and whole body health have a significant overlap and one affects the other much more than was previously realised. We have always been passionate about this and about giving our patients much more than a ‘dental check up’. Research already shows links between gum disease and many conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and blood pressure. Links between gum disease and some forms of dementia have also been found recently too. We know lots of people do not see their doctor regularly or are unaware of their key numbers so we offer a simple 5 point health screening so that you can get to “know your numbers.”

A health screening appointment involves
- A blood pressure check
- A Cholesterol screen
- A glucose screen
- Waist to height ratio assessment
- BMI assessment
The test take minutes and your results will be immediate and depending on the findings we will either offer advice or refer you to your doctor. A follow up test in 6 months may be advised.

BLOOD PRESSURE
Maintaining a healthy blood pressure is very important because the higher your blood pressure is the higher your chances of having health issues are. Increased blood pressure places more strain on all of the key organs in your body, if left undetected and uncontrolled it increases the risk of conditions such as strokes and heart failure.
CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol is needed to build healthy cells but too much of the wrong type of cholesterol can build up in the arteries restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of heart problems and strokes.
BLOOD GLUCOSE
Blood glucose levels vary throughout the day in relation to what we eat and your body’s ability to regulate this. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when your body is unable to regulate blood sugar levels. Untreated Type II diabetes increases the risks of heart disease, stroke, damage to vision, nerve function and your ability to heal.
WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO
Waist to height ratio is a simple measurement for assessment of lifestyle risk and the correct weight range. Although a relatively simple measure it helps to build a complete picture of your key health numbers.
BMI
The BMI scale gives broad bush indication of a healthy weight range for someone of your height. It takes into account natural variations in body shape, giving a healthy weight range for a particular height
